Summer of Football on 10 Play

10 Play has a stacked football schedule throughout summer

There is an endless slate of football to keep you occupied over the coming months with plenty of A-Leagues action, crucial Subway Socceroos World Cup Qualifiers, a long awaited homecoming for the CommBank Matildas as well as your fair share of continental football.

Endless drama in the Isuzu UTE A-League

The longest preseason in world football is almost over as we look forward to the start of the 2024/25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Building on the growth in TV viewership in 2023/24, this season will see the two Isuzu UTE A-League Men free-to-air matches moved to every Saturday on 10 Bold and 10 Play with back-to-back games kicking off from 5pm and 7:40pm AEST.

There will be a new team joining the competition while Central Coast Mariners will be on the hunt for their third straight Championship.

The Isuzu UTE A-League Men season will kick off on the weekend of 18-20 October, as Auckland FC embarks on their inaugural season in an expanded 13-team competition.

The new boys on the block will be coached by a familiar face with former Sky Blues man Steve Corica charged with leading the club in their inaugural season.

The newly assembled squad consists of mainly home grown New Zealand talent with some proven signings that include Japanese defender Hiroki Sakai while Alex Paulsen will be in between the sticks after joining from Bournemouth on loan.

The addition of another New Zealand team now adds another derby to the Isuzu UTE A-League calendar which already features the Sydney, Melbourne and Original Rivalry derbies just to name a few.

Ninja A-League All Summer Long

The 2024/25 Ninja A-League season is just around the corner.

Following a record-breaking season that saw record crowds, memberships and TV viewers, the Ninja A-League Women 2024/25 season will kick off on the weekend of 1-3 November.

The season has also been extended to a 23-game regular season as the league continues to expand to meet international standards.

Socceroos target automatic World Cup Qualification Berth

Australia will have a new coach at the helm following Tony Popovic's arrival in late September.

He has been tasked with reviving the Subway Socceroos' World Cup qualification hopes after Graham Arnold departed after picking up the solitary point from their two opening encounters.

Popovic's first match in charge will be date with bottom of the table China in Adelaide on Thursday, 10 October.

China suffered back-to-back defeats against Japan and Saudi Arabia and will be considered the prime opponent for the Socceroos who are in dire need of a win to boost their World Cup hopes.

Following on from that clash in Adelaide, Popovic's men will travel to Saitama for one of the most challenging matches.

How to Watch the Subway Socceroos World Cup Qualifiers

  • The Socceroos vs China clash will be live and free on 10 and 10 Play from 7:30pm AEDT on Thursday, 10 October.

  • The Japan vs Socceroos match will be able to stream live and exclusive on Paramount+ from 8:45pm AEDT on Tuesday, 15 October.

The Blue Samurai have had an absolutely lethal start to the latest set of qualifiers, putting seven unanswered goals past China before knocking off Bahrain 5-0.

The Socceroos record against Japan makes for difficult reading with their last win coming all the way back at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Since then, the two nations have shared the points on a couple of occasions but otherwise it has been Japan who hold the clear advantage in the head to head.

They met at this same qualification stage in Saitama for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Japan coming out on top 2-1.

The Socceroos Road To 26 Qualifiers continue over the following months with a double header against Saudi Arabia in Melbourne before making the trip to Bahrain.
