Charlie Sartori

Charlie Sartori

Victoria, 24, Professional Golfer

Growing up in Sorrento on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Charlie Sartori was a sporty child from the word go.

Following his older brother onto the golf course, Charlie was a member at Portsea Golf Club at around age eight, with his mum recognising his natural talent. At the time he chose to get stuck into his junior footy and cricket instead and it was not until age 14 when he played a nine-hole tournament with a mate that the penny dropped for Charlie and he was hooked.

A fully-qualified golf professional, Charlie studied through the PGA for three years and worked at Sorrento Golf Club. More recently he has been the club professional at Yarrambat Golf Club.

Charlie competed in the 2014 Victorian PGA Championship and played in the 2015 Victorian Golf Open. He has also played many pro-am events, but feels he has come to a crossroad in his life and it is time to pursue a different passion: food.

Having learnt to cook from both mum and dad, he says his parents’ passion for food has inspired him. Charlie really started cooking properly for himself once he moved out of home and has gone from strength to strength.

Family plays a big part in Charlie’s food dream: he would love to open a café with his older sister, combining great food and coffee with a warm, rustic environment.

To inspire him along the way, Charlie looks up to an eclectic mix of cooks and chefs including Shannon Bennett, Maggie Beer, Poh Ling Yeow, Adriano Zumbo, Marco Pierre White, Jamie Oliver, Heston Blumenthal and Julia Child.
