Tell us about your training and experience in the water?

Nippers as a kid. Water baby from a young age. Worldly traveler as a competitive bodyboarder, body surfer and paddle boarder.

What drew you to lifeguarding?

A love for the ocean, outdoors and helping people.

What unique achievements do you have in relation to the water or lifeguarding?

Not drowning and having a huge respect for the ocean and its power of putting people in their place.

How long have you been a lifeguard for?

17yrs

How has your view changed over the years on the beach and what you do?

I’ve spent so much time on beaches that’s its nice to not even be there. It’s good to have a break and not watch. I still love the beach but I like to not feel like I’m working on days off.

What do you love about being a Bondi Lifeguard?

The knowledge you gain from other services, the crazy situations we constantly have to deal with and being outdoors at the beach.

Is there still something that gets your heart racing on the job?

Having to deal with quick response incidents and making serious decision to find the best result.

What's the greatest lesson you've learnt while being a lifeguard?

As weird as it may sound, but “taking your time and reading the situation at hand.” And use plenty of sunscreen.

What do you think are the most important characteristics of a lifeguard?

Being open minded and available to everyone’s needs no matter how hard, professional or weird it may be.

What's the hardest part of your job?

Not being able to give people the result of answer they were looking for. Thankfully it’s not very often. And watching perfect waves go unridden while I have to look and not go surfing.

This year is the 10th for the TV Series, what’s been the most emotional day for you on the job?

(Or several days) The retrieval of ‘young dungy’ and attempt with his revival. A very sad day.

Which rescue stands out as something you’ll never forget?

Guiding a man from ‘twins’ at Tama. He was high in the rocks, tide rising and 6-8ft.

What do you want to achieve or get out of this season at Bondi?

A whole lot of positivity from the crew and the beach users getting the best out of their day with fun memories.

How do you feel about sharks?

Its their domain and we are entering it. Pure respect and love for such a fearsome animal.

Do you have any fears?

Not being able to help myself out of a dangerous situation.

Do you have another job outside lifeguarding?

Shaping custom body boards and renovating.

What are you hobbies?

Surfing, body boarding, scuba, mountain biking, shaping boards, cooking, cars.

Do you hang out with any of the lifeguards on the weekend?

Depends what’s on, but usually in the surf or for a celebratory drink.

What's your best and worst quality?

Trying to be so precise with my work. Ethic and being available to everyone.

If you weren’t a lifeguard what would you be?

Somewhere in the rescue or water related position.

What’s the silliest thing you’ve seen on Bondi Beach?

A guy nearly getting his penis bitten off by a dog.
