Trent Falson
DOB: December 18, 1977.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Bondi.
Relationship Status?
I’m a single dad to two amazing boys: Jude, aged 10, and Noah, aged 7.
How long have you been lifeguarding?
I was a lifeguard on Bondi from 1997 to 2002. After a 12-year break, I’m back for my seventh season.
Why did you leave the service?
I was young and felt there was a lot to discover in the world. After 12 years of different careers from aircraft refuelling to pharmaceutical sales to personal training, I was ready to come back. I now have such an appreciation for the unique elements of the job.
What made you decide to return?
I discovered there are some horrible jobs out there and doing what you love is more valuable than money. I missed the job and the team. It’s hard to explain what a tightknit team we are and the camaraderie we share. It’s really unique. I feel lifeguarding is where my strengths lie and where my passion is and I couldn’t satisfy that passion anywhere else.
How has your view changed over the years on the beach and in what you do?
With maturity and life lessons, I’ve learned that few people have the opportunity to impact other peoples’ lives and make a difference in the community. It is a huge responsibility for us, but also a huge honour.
Do you have any fears?
As a parent, my biggest worry is definitely anything to do with children in danger.
Trent “Singlets” Falson was on the Bondi Beach scene long before cameras ever started rolling. A Bondi local, he grew up in the water, surfing the waves of the north end from the age of five.
Singlets joined the North Bondi Surf Club as a nipper at the age of 10. He then moved up the ranks to the senior club, where he did patrols and trained at an elite national level as a specialist board paddler.
After winning a national board paddling title at the age of 16 as well as various NSW state medals, Singlets became a lifeguard for Waverley Council in 1997.
But after six years on the job, Singlets decided to spread his wings and see what other careers were out there. Twelve years, a few job changes and two children later, Singlets is thrilled to be back for his seventh year as a Bondi lifeguard.
