Immunity Cook-Off: Contestants Vs Pros
In the first Immunity Challenge of the season in Episode 7, Chloe went up against Shui Ishizaka, from Bennelong Restaurant, in hope of winning an Immunity Pin.
Chloe chose chilli, shallots, pumpkin, garlic, parsley, asparagus, bacon, fennel, mushrooms and prawns and with Shui cooking Prawn Cooked in Fennel Oil with Prawn Head Custard while Chloe cooked Prawn Mousse Tortellini in Broth
The judges scored Shui's dish 26/30 and Chloe's dish 24/30
Episode 52 gave Khanh the opportunity to fight for a fast tracked spot to Finals Week, where he was surprised when he not only had the choice of pantries, but the guest chef that came with each pantry.
MasterChef past contestants Matt Sinclair, from Season 8 and Reynold Poernomo from Season 7, returned to the kitchen, but this time as successful Guest Chefs. If Khanh chose the savoury pantry he would go up against Matt, or if he chose the Sweet pantry, he would head to head with the King of Desserts, Reynold.
Feeling more confident in cooking savoury dishes, Khanh chose to cook against Matt.
Khanh cooked Red Emperor with Mushroom and Radish while Matt cooked Smoked Thai Sausage with Chargrilled Squid and Sour Orange.
While Khanh presented a great dish to the judges and scored 24/30, Matt’s dish blew the judges away, with them going so far as to say that the dish was the best guest chef dish presented to them this season, and he was awarded a perfect score of 30/30.
In Episode 42 Khanh faced off against Ashley Davis, head chef of Copper Pot and Messer in Melbourne.
Khanh had the choice to use the first pantry that was revealed and have 75 minutes to cook, or to use both the first pantry and the surprise pantry and only have 60 minutes. Khanh opted to use the surprise pantry in hope of getting fragrant ingredients, having the same amount of time to cook as Ashley.
Khanh cooked Duck Breast with Persimmon and Ginger Sauce and Ashley cooked John Dory and Abalone with Autumn Vegetables, both presenting beautiful and delicious dishes that impressed the judges.
Khanh was awarded a score of 25/30 while Ashley was awarded 27/30, with Khanh just missing out on his second Immunity Pin.
Kristen went up against Alice Wright from Millstone Patisserie in Episode 37
Things were a little different this week, when Kristen was presented with Neapolitan Ice Cream and had to choose between the flavours of chocolate, strawberry or vanilla to hero in a dessert. Kristen chose to hero chocolate, meaning neither her or Alice were allowed to use strawberry or vanilla.
Kristen made a White Chocolate, Caramel and Apple while Alice made a Chocolate Macadamia and Seasonal Fruit.
Kristen scored 18/30 while Alice scored 18/30, meaning it was a draw and no pin was given out.
After an intricate and challenging Round 1, Sashi battled it out for his second Immunity Pin against Andy Harmer from QT Melbourne in Episode 32
Sashi had to choose two ingredients, one from each pantry, to hero in the challenge. He chose lamb and peas for both him and Andy to use, with Andy cooking Lamb and Minted Peas and Sashi cooking Lamb and Pea Puree.
Andy received a score of 24/30 and Sashi received a history making score of 27/30 and winning his second Immunity Pin of the series
Khanh went up against Jin Choi, from Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant at Mt Lofty House in Episode 27.
The ingredient that the chefs had to cook with was Vegemite, proving to be a difficult ingredient to hero. Khanh cooked Chicken Dumplings with Smoke Chicken Breast and a Vegemite and Chicken Bone Broth while Jin made Prawn and Vegemite Butter Risotto.
Jin was awarded 17/30 while Khanh was scored 26/30, earning Khanh the fourth Immunity Pin of the season.
Jess went head to head with Jacqui Challinor, head chef at Nomad Restaurant in Surry Hills, in Episode 22.
Jess had to choose between a big ingredients and small ingredients pantry, opting for the big things pantry. Jacqui went for the fresh seafood and cooked Barbecue King Prawns, Olive Oil Poached Fennel, Chilli and Lime while Jess made a Lime Tart with Brazil Nut Praline dessert.
Jacqui's dish won with a score of 28/40 while Jess impressed the judges and was awarded a score of 25/30.
Reece went head to head with John Rivera, winner of the San Pellegrino Young Chef Award 2018, in the Triple Immunity Pin Challenge in Episode 17, where they had to champion vegetables in a dish.
The winning dish was Reece's Cucumber and Lemon Verbana Sorbet with Yoghurt Mousse, scoring 25/30 while John was scored 21/30
Sashi went head to head with Gavin Hughes, Executive Chef at Byron on Byron, in the Triple Immunity Pin Challenge in Episode 17, where they had to champion vegetables in a dish.
The winning dish was Sashi's Duck and Vegetables, scoring 20/30 while Gavin was scored 17/30.
Samira went head to head with Jo Barrett, from Oakwood Winery, in the Triple Immunity Pin Challenge in Episode 17, where they had to champion vegetables in a dish.
The winning dish was Jo's Potato Ginger and Rosemary, scoring 29/30 while Samira was scored 24/30
Loki went up against Alanna Sapwell, Head Chef of Saint Peter restaurant in Sydney, in Episode 12 in Nigella Week.
Loki chose lemons as the hero ingredient for the dishes, with Alanna cooking Whole Squid Charred Calamari with Ink Sauce and Lemon Dressing and Loki cooking Kingfish with Shellfish Lemon Broth, Rice and Chapatti.
Alanna was given a score of 34/40 while Loki was given a score of 37/40, with Loki becoming the first contestant to win an immunity pin in Season 10.
