Cat Snapped At Maroubra Beach Leaves Aussies Divided

An image of a domestic cat enjoying Maroubra beach has left some Aussies stunned, sparking a fearsome debate as to whether they should be allowed on the beach.

The leashed cat was snapped enjoying the beach in Sydney's southeast, but Aussies were unsure about having the feline near the water.

Many commenters were horrified that the owners had brought the cat to the beach, with one writing, "Some people should not own pets."

"Cat's not happy, hope it doesn't pee or poo," another said, while one person wrote, "That's a fine waiting to happen.

However, there were many who defended the owner's choice to bring their clearly beloved pet to the beach.

"Just remember - the dogs and the cat never leave as much rubbish, litter, or crap as humans do," one person wrote.

"People can have dogs on the beaches even when they ignored the rules; it's still okay because dogs are so cute and they're humans' best friends," another said.

"But giving people such a hard time when they bring their cat, why? I didn't see anything wrong in the photo," another person wrote.

"To be honest, this cat was very comfortable exploring the area, greeting people for pats. It was very loved and seemed to be content on its lead," another added.

Randwick City Council states that cats are not allowed in beaches, children's play areas, food preparation zones, community centres, schools and kindergartens.
