Lupa Pizza in Norwich made the decision to add the ‘Hawaiian’ pizza to their menu after conducting a poll on social media asking: ‘Does pineapple belong on a pizza?’
The restaurant hashtagged #standupforwhatsright and #dontbeasheep, making it abundantly clear which side of the fence they sat on.
The results were neck and neck, ending in a 50/50 tie and Lupa Pizza ultimately caved in to the yes-voters, but there’s a catch.
The restaurant took to Instagram to share their decision.
"Pineapple on pizza — love it or hate it?" they wrote.
"We're not so keen, but if you are it's now on our Deliveroo menu for £100 ($198). 🤷♂️ Every Thursday order from Lupa via Deliveroo and get 20per cent off your order! See Deliveroo for T&C's."
People shared their support of the decision, writing “love this” and “team pineapple” in the comments.
In a prior social media post, Lupa Pizza’s chef posted a pineapple that had been smashed to a pulp by a rolling pin.
The caption read: ‘ Quin has been pushed too far.’
While ham and pineapple pizza continues to be controversial, according to Ooshman, it is the second most popular pizza topping in Australia, beat only by the humble Margherita.
