Were you surprised to be asked to go on Dancing With The Stars?
Yeah I was surprised but then I realised no of course they want me there, everyone needs someone to laugh at. And that’s their angle so I’ll give it to them.
Being barefoot most of the time, how are you going to manage in heels?
That’s my big problem I think. I wore heels yesterday and I just felt really miserable and really tired and had sore feet. So I haven’t put any shoes on today. I’m just going to try and bring as much of my normal life, with a bit of nature and a bit of barefoot into it. I think it’s just best to wear heels at the last minute and hope I don’t screw up!
As a busy mum how are you going to juggle everything?
That’s a tricky part. I’ve got cousins and friends and a whole group of people who are on board while I’m doing this. I’ve got one cousin who is very close with my family, she’s toured with us, she’s lived with us, so I’ve put her in charge of logistics. She’s got a management role managing the nannies and the babysitters, so then they can just call me with big problems.
You’ve been training for a few days now, do you think you are prepared?
No I’m not prepared. I think the hardest part for me is remembering the steps, not doing them. That’s really tricky. My beautiful dance partner Gustavo is very patient with me but I don’t think he quite understands what he’s dealing with yet.
Is there any sort of dance you might be a little bit more scared of?
I don’t know anything about dance. So when someone says jive or waltz, I have to Google and YouTube it. So I guess l’m scared of anything. I’m scared of all of it!
Is Dancing With The Stars is a new challenge for you?
Yes I definitely think that putting yourself out of your comfort zone and anything that gives you anxiety is worth doing. Anything you are scared of is worth doing. If you just stay in your comfort zone your whole life you sort of stagnate, you’ve got to try different things. So that’s why I have a core belief that even though it’s going to hurt, it’s going to be good.
Who is your chosen charity to support while on Dancing With The Stars?
I work really closely with a charity called Rafiki Mwema. It is based in Kenya and we have about 70 children who are victims of sexual abuse. I was approached by Rafiki and I was just like, bang that’s what I want to do, I don’t just want to do this for my own - there is a greater good out there. I want my life to mean more than just my life.
Who is your biggest support during this time?
My husband definitely. He just lies there pretending to sleep while I just sound board him with everything.
