Sweeney was subjected to an onslaught of body shaming when photos of the Euphoria star lounging in a bikini at her home in Florida went viral.
The actress compiled dozens of vicious comments in a post to Instagram, with some of the foul messages describing the star as “quite frumpy”, “very chunky”, and “two years away from obesity”.
The trolls’ comments did not go unnoticed by Sweeney’s 23 million Instagram followers, with many famous friends rushing to support the star.

Sweeney’s Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell wrote that she was “such a badass”, while popstar Kesha called her a “strong baddie”.
“It’s always wild to see people publicly out-themselves as pieces of shit with comments like that. You look incredible and your dedication to your project is very inspiring,” wrote actress Lili Reinhart.
Sweeney, 27, has been bulking up for her role as professional boxer Christy Martin and followed up the montage of nasty body shaming comments with clips of her intense workout routine.
Sweeney shared a gushing post about Martin when filming wrapped on the movie two weeks ago, describing the process as “nothing short of surreal”.
“There were moments on set where I’d glance over at her standing by the monitors, cheering us on, and I’d just become so emotional. Knowing what she’s endured, what she’s pushed through to be there in that moment—it made me want to cry,” the actress wrote.
