Ex-Cyclone Alfred Aftermath Leaves A Trail Of Destruction Through The East Coast

In the wake of ex-cyclone Alfred, QLD and NSW face life-threatening flash flooding, hundreds of thousands without power and many homes destroyed.

Residents are far from out of the woods yet as severe thunderstorms and major flood warnings continue to plague the region.

Brisbane has marked its wettest day in more than half a century with submerged cars, playgrounds underwater, unrelenting rain and homes left in ruin.

Locals in Ipswich have been told to leave as the river is expected to rise to more than 12 meters tonight.

A shark has also been spotted amid the rising floodwaters of the Tallebudgera Creek on the Gold Coast.

Queensland SES has recorded its busiest day ever, hitting the streets by boat to rescue people from their cars after flash flooding hit the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

Alfred has brought out the best and the worst of residents as thieves have targeted vulnerable homes and businesses amid the deluge.

Police arrested a Brisbane man who was allegedly caught with ten sets of vehicle keys and housebreaking implements.

In NSW, the focus has turned to the Clarence, Richmond and Tweed rivers, as all three face major flood warnings.

The Prime Minister has announced a support package for eligible workers and sole traders who have been impacted by the cyclone.

As desperate locals anxiously wait out the storm, the help cannot come soon enough.
