Aussie Pizza Chain Offers Orange On Pizza

Australian pizza chain Bubba Pizza has revealed what could be the most diabolical new pizza topping: orange slices.

The chain, which has stores in Victoria and South Australia, is offering ham and orange pizzas at select stores.

The new pizza features a tomato base, Bubba’s Original Smoked Leg ham, mozzarella and chunks of fresh orange.

Their advertising material reads: “Break the pineapple divide. Try orange instead.”

Social media users immediately shut down this idea, with one saying, “Straight to jail.”

“Send this to the Italians,” one person wrote.

“Sounds revolting. But if somebody likes it, OK, go wild. It won’t affect me at all,” another said.

“So I’m pro pineapple on pizza. Find the sweetness is a great add. I get people are texture people,” one wrote.

“I also like orange. Orange can never complement pizza. I’m out.”

“With this one simple trick, pineapple-on-pizza supporters and haters have been united,” another person pointed out.

However, some people were open to the idea, saying they were intrigued to try the new offering.

“I’d try a slice but I’m not willing to pay money to try it,” one wrote while another added, “I’ll try everything once.”

Another pointed out that pork and orange is not an unusual flavour combination.

“People make orange-glazed ham all the time. It’s not uncommon to find it in South American pork braises and European confit variations. Also used in a lot of Chinese, Korean and Thai marinades and stirfrys,” they said.

“There would be a tonne I don’t know about as well, just a few examples of its compatibility when pairing with meats. I’m not justifying this pizza, but it wouldn’t be bad – Just different. Salty fatty pork undeniably goes well with sweet fruits, fresh and cooked.”
