'No Way For Us To Get Out': Jayde And Tayla Hunted Down Hiding In A Cupboard

Slipping off the Hunters' radar for several days, it was a glass of Sauvignon Blanc that spelled the end for besties Jayde and Tayla.

The Gold Coast bffs had successfully disappeared without a trace, leaving the Hunters scratching their heads and pulling at threads as they chilled out in a holiday home.

For several days, Jayde and Tayla managed to hide out in a holiday home, keeping their heads down and just living their best lives.

"That was part of our strategy," Jayde told 10 Play, "to stay out of sight and out of the public... we didn't know when we would get caught so, we wanted to make sure we were having fun."

The pair studied previous seasons, watching what other teams had done and what had caused their downfalls. "What teams did, what didn't work, car tracking, Myki cards and all that type of stuff," Jayde explained.

"But our main strategy was our contacts and who we were going to stay with," she added.

"We made sure they weren't too close to home, as well," Tayla said, "it was like a brother's cousin's friend."

"Apart from the day we got caught," Jayde continued, "that was the one time we went a little close to home but prior to that and the rest of the run we planned to go back to all those very far contacts."

According to the pair, the Hunters didn't have any leads on them until just 24 hours before they were captured. "So, I think we definitely outsmarted them," Jayde said.

"And I think that annoyed them a bit... which we loved," Tayla added as they both laughed.

Making their way across Melbourne, the pair decided to use some of their stolen money from the bank heist to purchase ferry tickets, as well as a cheeky glass of wine each while on the boat. But using the stolen money flagged HQ to their approximate location.

With a web of obscure contacts they believed could keep the Hunters guessing, Jayde and Tayla hit a snag when they hit a few dead ends. Instead, they chose to head to Tayla's cousin Liam's house.

The Hunters were closing in, approaching Tayla's brother and pouring through his phone they zeroed in on the cousin in question and decided to pay him a visit. Jayde and Tayla received a tip-off that the Hunters had been snooping and that their cover was blown.

"We were only at that house for about an hour before the Hunters came so, we did have a plan to get out of there once Liam's girlfriend got home, she was going to take us to another house," Jayde said.

"As we were doing that, discussing it on the couch, we just saw [the Hunters] running towards the door and thought... you are kidding me," Tayla added.

"It was honestly real bad luck, if we had an extra five or ten minutes we would have been out of there," Jayde said.

"That's what annoyed us the most, we were leaving. We weren't staying, so we were that much closer to getting away.

As the Hunters entered Liam's house, on first looks it appeared as if Jayde and Tayla had successfully made an escape, but ripping through each room one of the Hunters tore open the doors to a wardrobe to find the two besties with their heads in their hands.

"Our hearts sank," Tayla said.

"We had two or three Hunter teams on us, one at the back [door], two people inside, so there was no way for us to get out. That's why we ran to the closet," Jayde explained. "We went to run out the back and jump the fence but saw Hunters out there."

"I kept hearing them go, 'They're not in here!' and I thought maybe they wouldn't come in," Tayla admitted.

"Next minute, 'You've been hunted down'," Jayde added as they both laughed.

The capture of Jayde and Tayla was a personal victory for several of the Hunters back at HQ who made it their mission to track the besties down due to their blonde hair and social media presence.

"We were definitely disappointed in the female interaction towards us with the Hunters," Jayde admitted. "I feel like it was a lot of judging us off how we look which we actually didn't appreciate because we're girls' girls and we're very supportive with other women."

"We're not about bringing other women down and talking badly," Tayla added.

"Just them talking about the way we looked, calling us dumb blondes," Jade continued.

"Even saying they'd quit if we win," Tayla agreed. "We expected a little something but not to that extent. We were a bit shocked. If they acted like that towards every girl on the run it would have been a little bit different if everyone was copping it.

"But it was really just to us because we're two blonde girls from the Gold Coast. That's just what they went off and they didn't see anything past that," she said.

Despite the harsh comments from some of the Hunters, the duo loved their stint as Fugitives on the run.

"It was honestly amazing, we had so much fun," Jayde said. "Obviously it didn't turn out how we wanted to, but along the way we just had so much fun, used our brains and thought we had kind of outsmarted them."

"...Clearly not," Tayla added with a laugh.
