Weet-Bix Settles Flat V. Vertical Debate, Claims ‘There’s No Right Or Wrong Way’ To Eat Them

Weet-Bix were called on to settle a couple’s heated cereal debate after a husband accused his wife of being a “psycho” for laying hers flat in the bowl while he opted for a vertical approach.

Posting to Reddit, the user posted a photo of the two bowls of whole-grain goodness side by side.

“Ok Weetbix kids, help sort an argument for me and wifey,” he wrote.

“I run my Weetbix vertically, which optimisers each bix' access to milk this ensuring a more balanced texture across the dish. She runs hers flat, like a psycho. Thoughts?”

The debate had been posted to the Reddit thread r/Australia, and patriotic Aussies flocked to the comments to claim that eating Weet-Bix vertically is “un-Australian”.

“Vertical???? What is this madness!!!!!” one commenter asked.

“I lay mine flat because I'm not a psycho,” another quipped.

“Flat, you monster!” a third added.

One commenter didn’t believe in the ability of the vertical stack for even milk distribution. “That’s crazy talk,” they wrote.

“Vertically doesn’t give balanced texture. The bottom is soaked in milk, but the top is dry.”

While others were adamant that vertical was the way to go.

“Vertical, and I'll die on this hill defending it!”

While plenty of commenters suggested a secret third option.

“Neither. crushed up using my hands to start the day with a good dose of stress management,” one user wrote.

“3rd Option: Crushed,” another added.

Then, there was this commenter who didn’t quite understand the assignment.

Commenting simply that they “eat them raw”.

According to Sarah Smyth, Weet-Bix Brand Manager at Sanitarium, there are valid options.

“We’ve been doing our Weet-Bix daily for nearly 100 years, and there’s no right or wrong way,” she told news.com.au.

“Vertical, flat, whole, crumbled, soaked or plain, we just love how the humble Weet-Bix is the perfect base to inspire a master breakfast chef in any generation.

“From savoury to the strangest of sweet toppings, to smoothies, slices, veggie balls, and even crumbled on a salad for extra crunch, we’ve heard it all over the years!”
