Nintendo treated fans to a first-look trailer of the new Switch model and even gave a glimpse at a new Mario Kart game.
As for the Nintendo Switch 2 model, it will have a larger display, magnetic Joy-Con controllers, a brand new larger kickstand, that mysterious new c button and more.
The most noticeable upgrade is the magnetic controllers on either side of the system, which now connect with magnets.
They can snap on or off instead of sliding into position like they did on the original Switch.
As for what games the new model will play, the first look trailer read: "Nintendo Switch 2 plays both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games,"
"Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2.
"Details will be shared on the Nintendo website at a later date."
Nintendo also announced a "series of hands-on events held around the world" for the Switch 2.
The Australian event will be based in Melbourne from May 10-11th, 2025, and tickets will go live on January 18th at 11:00 am AEDT until January 26th at 11:59 pm for those with a Nintendo Switch Online account.
