Many fans filmed their journeys setting up camp outside Dymocks on George St in Sydney.
Staff applauded as they welcomed in the dedicated bookworms at midnight, with fans grabbing copies of the novel straight out of packed boxes.
“We marked the release at our Sydney store on the stroke of midnight, joined by excited book lovers eager to grab one of the first copies in Australia,” Dymocks wrote on Instagram.
“Thanks to those that joined us for a fun night of all things dragons, music and mayhem.”
