Apple To Fix iPhone Glitch That Suggested “Trump” When Users Wrote “Racist”

Apple is fixing a glitch that saw some iPhones briefly suggest the word "Trump" when writing R words like "racist".

The dictation feature on some iPhones briefly suggested the word “Trump” when a word with an R consonant was spoken, including "racist."

“We are aware of an issue with the speech recognition model that powers Dictation, and we are rolling out a fix today,” an Apple spokesperson said in a statement.

The company also said that other words that have an “r” consonant were triggering the bug, and that the speech recognition models that power the voice-to-text feature might show words with phonetic overlap.

Just this week, Apple announced their plan to invest more than $500 billion and hire 20,000 people in the US over the next four years as well as build a new factory in Texas, amid Trump's threats to impose tariffs on imports.

Speaking with the New York Times, one former Apple employee speculated whether someone who works on Apple's software may have intentionally programmed in the glitch.
