Comedian Nikki Glaser made history - not just as the first woman to host the awards solo, but also as the first in years to land a few jokes.

There were near stumbles, sassy speeches, and one of Elton John’s first public appearances since his severe eye infection that led to vision loss.

Then, the awards were handed out for the best on the big and small screens.

The Aussies saw a string of snubs this year. Cate Blanchett and Naomi Watts went head-to-head for best female actor in a limited series but ultimately lost.

Even Nicole Kidman couldn’t bring it home for Australia with her 17th Golden Globe nomination for the erotic thriller Baby Girl.

But Adrien Brody had better luck - beating out three-time champ Timothée Chalamet for Best Actor, dedicating the win to his dad.

Musical extravaganza Wicked clinched the new award on the block, for box office achievement…

But the big winner of the night was musical thriller Emilia Perez, topping the film awards tally with four wins, and making Sofia Gascon the first trans woman to be nominated for Best Actress.
