Kumar Pereira was born in Sri Lanka and travelled around London and Hong Kong, studying and working in graphic design. After moving to Sydney in 1988, he lived and worked with his wife Sally and their sons Robert and James.

Kumar had a long, successful career before he finally decided it was time to chase something new - his love for cooking!

"My dream is to run a residential cooking school along with my wife. I love cooking and I love teaching so I've decided to combine the two. When I stand in the kitchen I feel in power, I feel in charge, and I feel ready to take on anything. I would love to give everyone else a run for their money, game on!"

During his time in the competition, he created delicious dishes that continued to WOW the judges, such as his Seafood Ravioli.
