“Helping returning Australians stuck overseas is a Commonwealth responsibility, however WA will continue to provide support and work with the Federal Government at the National Cabinet level to do what we can to help, within our means.
“The Federal Government has today indicated that Western Australia needs to take on more international passenger arrivals beyond the existing agreed cap of around 525 people per week.
“The Premier has said Western Australia would support a plan by the Federal Government that would include additional international arrivals into a Commonwealth managed quarantine facility. This would help bring more Australians home and will ensure the State Government’s hotel quarantine system is not under undue pressure and vulnerable to problems like those previously experienced in Victoria.
“We look forward to the Prime Minister providing clarity on this proposal at Friday’s National Cabinet meeting.”
