On Boxing Day Jared Leto celebrated his fiftieth birthday by posting a photo of himself shirtless to his Instagram. The most common response to the glossy photo seems to be some version of “what the heck? How are you 50?”
The photo which shows off his glistening abs, a bit of blood dripping from his mouth and a slice of rainbow birthday cake is the exact sort of shot that could put you off cake forever or make you think about cake constantly for the next week and feel weird about it.
The caption was “Thnx for all the bday wishes!” followed by a heart emoji, a cake emoji and a good half dozen or so prayer emojis which does suggest the social media skills of a fifty year old who’s still throwing emojis around the place.
As people started commenting “How are you 50” and “OMG, you are really 50 years old?” presumably the feelings of over non-movie star 50 year olds were being hurt. These other 50 year olds who look 50 have to go through their non-movie star lives wondering why they look every year of their age, while a man who has the help of money and employees continues to look good well into his fifties.
There is some suggestion that he might actually be a real life vampire and not just play one in an upcoming movie. It also possible there’s a touch of photoshop being done of the photograph. Then again maybe the Joker make-up is just really good for your skin.
But the reality of the situation about Leto’s age is probably an easy puzzle to solve. Leto was playing a teenager on My So-Called Life in 1994 when he was already 23, so it’s probable that Jared is simply blessed with always looking younger than he actually is. The magic of good genes.
