Australia Announces $1.2 Billion Plan To Stockpile Rare Earth Minerals

From fighter jets to wind turbines, iPhones to EVs, Missiles to MRI scanners, rare earths are a group of 17 elements critical to the manufacture of many high-tech products.

You have probably heard a bit about ‘rare earth minerals’ a lot lately.

Well, today, Australia launched a bold power play to help corner the global market on the critical resource, but there’s a massive secret to rare earths that no one is talking about.

The US is on a quest to break free from its reliance on Beijing, with Trump recently eyeing up Greenland, Canada and Ukraine - nations rich in minerals.

But, despite the name, rare earths aren’t actually that rare.

Australia holds at least four percent of the world's rare earth reserves - the fourth largest in the world.

Today PM Anthony Albanese pledged to establish a $1.2 billion dollar national stockpile of the coveted minerals.

The plan? To ensure an ongoing supply for local industry and key allies like Japan and South Korea, as well as using the supply as a sweetener to negotiate a Trump tariff carve out.

So, could Australia become a big player?
