In a video posted to TikTok, Instagram and YouTube on Thursday, Parton announced, "I'm announcing the search for Dolly."
"Whether you're chasing your dreams from a small town or you've spent years performing on stages across the country, I want to give you the chance to help me bring my story to Broadway and maybe even play me."
The Grammy-award-winning artist continued: "We're looking for talented performers who can capture the spirit of my journey, whether you're an experienced theatre professional or an undiscovered gem with that little special something. The selected few will get the chance to audition in person in front of our show's casting director."
Budding Broadway performers can submit an audition tape at dollymusical.com, but the 78-year-old is also asking candidates to post their submissions online, using the hashtag #SearchForDolly. Finalists will audition in person with the show's casting director.
Parton first announced her musical back in June, when it was originally called 'Hello, I'm Dolly'.
The Broadway show will feature a score of Parton's well-known songs as well as new songs she has written for the musical. It's not Parton's first rodeo when it comes to musicals, having written the Tony-nominated score to the musical adaptation of 9 to 5: The Musical.
Speaking with PEOPLE back in January, Parton said that a Broadway show telling her life story is a dream of hers.
"Right now, I'm working on my life story as a musical, and so going on Broadway and opening my show on Broadway, that's been a biggie [goal] in my mind for many, many years," she said. "That'd be the one that I want to make certain I get done while I'm still kicking, while I'm around to stay involved in it."
'Dolly: An Original Musical' will hit Broadway stages in 2026.
