Debate Sparked After Woman Refused To Give Paid Window Seat To Child

A 27-year-old woman has gone viral for refusing to give up her pre-booked window seat to a seven-year-old who wanted to enjoy the view on his first plane ride.

Sometimes, the drama of air travel has nothing to do with turbulence.

The woman, who has lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, explained on Reddit that she specifically pays extra for a window seat because she has chronic pain and wants to sleep through the flight without being bothered by anyone.

But soon after boarding, the young boy’s dad asked her to swap. She offered a compromise:

"I said I’ll keep the window open for him then as I have an eye mask I can wear. He said I was being difficult and to just let him switch my seats.

“So, I asked if he would pay the price I did, and he said I’m being ridiculous. I put my headphones in and ignored the father."

The child, unimpressed by the compromise, spent the flight complaining and tapping her shoulder. Even the flight attendant got involved, suggesting she move “to keep the peace.”

But she stuck to her guns. “I repeatedly said no,” she shared.

The internet rallied behind her. One commenter wrote: "You chose it, and you paid for it - and the reason is nobody’s business but yours. If this father wanted his son to have a window seat so badly, he could have chosen and paid for one. Entitled parents unfortunately breed entitled kids,.”

Another added: "Kid needs to hear 'no' more often.''

It sounds like the lesson here is, if you want the window seat, don't throw a tantrum... just book one.
