One-half of the couple shared their predicament in a post on Reddit, saying they "were talking about names, and selected very well thought out names for our first two; however, we cannot agree on the name for our third."
The anonymous writer shared that they were pregnant with their third child, and "the one name we really like and can agree on is the one we chose for our potential future dog", and it just "feels wrong" to give their baby the name of a dog.
The Reddit user also shared concerns about telling the child their name's origins, writing, "What about when said child asks about how he got his name in the future?"
Commenters largely thought it was okay for the child and the pet to share a name and encouraged the couple to use whatever name they loved the most.
"All you have to tell the kid if they ask about their name is that it is a name you and your spouse really loved," advised one person, while another said, "Ultimately, what matters most is that you and your partner love the name and feel it suits your child."
One person asked for more information, saying, "I think this post differs wildly depending on what name turns out to be: Muffin or Milton."
Others thought it was a little strange, with one person questioning, "Considering all the names in the existence of mankind, you and your partner really can't think of anyone you like other than the one you picked for a potential pet?"
