Brightest Supermoon Of The Year Set To Light Up Night Sky

Aussie stargazers will be treated to the brightest supermoon of the year on Thursday night.

The October full moon, also known as the hunter’s moon, is the third of four consecutive supermoons and will be the brightest due to the Earth moving closer to the sun since the last supermoon in September.

Supermoons occur when a full moon is at its closest point to Earth during its orbit; the moon itself isn’t any bigger but appears so as it is closer to us.

The supermoon will occur at 10:26 pm AEDT but will look its biggest around dusk and appear full through Friday evening.

Anyone keen to see the supermoon in all its glory will be able to do so without a telescope, with the hunter moon visible to the naked eye.

The next supermoon will take place on November 15 and will be the last one for the year.
