US To Supply Ukraine With Landmines For Use Against Russian Forces

The Biden administration has announced that it will give Ukraine anti-personnel mines to help it slow Russia’s battlefield advances as part of a $275 million support package. It marks the second major shift on US military support for Kyiv in recent days, after approving Ukraine to use longer-range American missiles to launch strikes deeper into Russia. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has welcomed the decision and stated in his nightly address, “on the 1,001st day of a full-scale war, Russia is just as insane as it was on the 1,000th day and on February 24."

Biden Lifts Ban For Ukraine To Use US Arms To Strike Inside Russia

Joe Biden’s administration has reportedly allowed Ukraine to use US-made weapons to conduct long-range attacks into Russia. The move follows months of pleas from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to allow the country’s military to strike Russian military targets far from its border. Zelenskyy has addressed the reports stating, “Today, much is being said in the media about us receiving permission for the relevant actions. But strikes are not made with words. “Such things are not announced. The missiles will speak for themselves.” His statement comes after a Russian rocket hit a nine-story building in Ukraine's northern Sumy region on Sunday, killing at least eight people and wounding dozens.

Israeli Strike Reportedly Kills Hezbollah Media Chief In Beirut

Hezbollah's chief spokesperson has reportedly been killed in an Israeli strike on the Arab socialist Ba’ath party's office in Lebanon’s capital. Mohammad Afif was a media advisor to Hezbollah's former secretary general Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli air attack on Beirut’s southern suburbs on September 27. The strike on Sunday hit the Ras al-Nabaa neighborhood in Beirut, destroying the government building that has been leveled to the ground.

Indonesia’s Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has continued to spew volcanic ash up to 10 kilometres into the sky on Wednesday, over the eastern island of Flores. While the volcano has been erupting repeatedly since November 3, the most recent eruption on Tuesday saw lava flowing down its slopes. At least nine people have been killed and more than 12,000 have been evacuated, instilling panic amongst villagers living in a school, which has been turned into an evacuation centre. Australian airlines are continuing to cancel or delay flights in and out of Bali, which is just over 800km away from the volcano.

School closures and train cancellations are plaguing Spain as new storms lash the country, with local forecasters saying up to 70 millimetres of rain had accumulated in an hour on Wednesday. Around three thousand people near the Guadalhorce river in the southern Malaga province have been evacuated from their homes as a precaution. The severe storms follow flash flooding in Valencia and other parts of Spain, which killed more than 220 people.
