Christy Tania
Born in Indonesia, Christy Tania graduated Business School in Singapore and began her career as IBM’s youngest-ever female Project Manager. But with a cake baking business on the side to express her creativity, when Christy began earning more from her baking than her day job, she went all-in to pursue her culinary dreams, moving to France to train at the École Nationale Supérieure de Pâtisserie.
Whilst in France, Christy worked with three Michelin star chef Alain Ducasse and at the Ritz Hotel in Paris, before moving to Melbourne to be with her partner. It was here that Christy became head chef at Om Nom in 2013. The dessert-only fine diner at the Adelphi Hotel was awarded a Chef’s Hat and Christy visited MasterChef Australia several times with incredible sweet sensations posing as tough pressure test challenges, always leaving contestants awestruck.
After three years at Om Nom, Christy became Executive Pastry Chef at the Langham Hotel before opening her very own Glacé Dessert Artisanal in Melbourne’s Windsor in 2017, where she is owner and Head Pastry Chef. Glacé’s philosophy combines classical French techniques with the latest culinary trends to offer a range of handcrafted cakes, petit fours, petit gateaux, macarons and ice cream.
With Glacé now in two locations, Christy’s husband and fellow chef Luke Johnson works alongside her as they balance retail spaces with a healthy wholesale division.
They also balance family life, with Christy a proud mum to son Ben, now one. Christy joins the Dessert Masters ranks in part to return to the kitchen with gusto after time spent at home with Ben. She is here not simply to push herself creatively, but to prove what can be achieved by a busy, passionate, working mum.
With a rebrand of Glacé afoot, launching a series of master classes and hard at work on her debut cookbook, life for Christy is anything but dull.
With her love of thinking outside the box to deliver the unexpected, Christy will bring her strategic mind and creative genius together to take things to the next level in the Dessert Masters kitchen, keeping her eyes firmly on the prize.
