Valerie, The Missing Sausage Dog, Has Been Captured After 529 Days Lost On Kangaroo Island

After 529 days on the run, the search for the infamous sausage dog, Valerie, came to an end on Friday night, with the team at Kangala Wildlife Rescue successfully capturing the Kangaroo Island legend.

The rescue team posted to their Facebook to share news of a happy ending to the story that has captured the nation.

“Kangala Wildlife Rescue is overjoyed to announce the successful rescue of Valerie, the miniature dachshund who went missing on Kangaroo Island 529 days ago,” the rescue team wrote on Facebook.

“After weeks of tireless efforts by Kangala Wildlife Rescue volunteers and partner organisations Valerie has been safely rescued and is fit and well.

“We are absolutely thrilled and deeply relieved that Valerie is finally safe and able to begin her transition back to her loving parents Josh and Georgia.

Valerie went missing back in November 2023, while visiting Stokes Bay with her owners, Josh Fishlock and Georgia Gardner.

The adorable 4kg sausage dog fled her playpen while her owners were out on a brief fishing trip, and has been on the run for 529 days.

Kangala Wildlife Rescue said volunteers spent “over 1000 hours” and travelled “5000km” during their search for the sneaky sausage, and they were thrilled to finally get to deliver the good news to Fishlock and Gardner.

"They were just so excited, there were tears," one rescuer said.

Valerie will now spend a week recovering on Kangaroo Island before she's reunited with her elated owners.
