UK Radio Stations Censor Spice Girls’ ‘Spice Up Your Life’

The Spice Girls' smash hit song ‘Spice Up Your Life’ is now being censored by British radio 28 years after its release.

The 1997 hit song has now joined the likes of Rage Against The Machine’s ‘Killing In The Name Of’, which features some colourful language, including the line, “F**k you, I won’t do what you tell me,” and the Sex Pistols’ punk anthem ‘God Save The Queen.’

The line that has been deemed controversial: “Yellow man in Timbuktu/Colour for both me and you.”

UK radio stations are now playing an amended version of the hit with the word ‘yellow’ removed.

A music insider told The Sun that no one has complained about the lyrics. “Spice Up Your Life" is a piece of pop music history - it’s baffling that the Beeb have decided to censor it.

“The (band) are singing in celebration of people from all walks of life. It’s clumsy but not insulting.”

A Radio 2 representative said that the edit was not made by them, adding that other UK stations are also playing the censored version of the song as well.

The censorship row comes as rumours swirl that a Spice Girl reunion is in the works.

Geri Horner, AKA Ginger Spice, has predicted that the Spice Girls will perform together again in the future.

Horner told The Sunday Times, “There will be something” with all five members involved.

"My hope is we come back together as a collective," she said.

"It's more respectful to come as one. We'll come as one."

Last year, the iconic girl group celebrated 30 years since the power pop group formed.

There was endless speculation that the Spice Girls would reunite for their 30th anniversary.

The five members have not performed together since the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympics.

A 2019 reunion went ahead without Victoria Beckham, also known as Posh Spice.
