September’s Full Harvest Moon Will Also Be A Supermoon

Tonight the sky will treat star-gazers to the incredible sight of September's full moon, known as the ‘harvest moon’, that is made extra special as it is also a supermoon.

According to NASA, the full moon will reach its peak on Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024, at around 10:35 p.m. EDT, but the celestial events don’t end there.

The Harvest Supermoon will also be accompanied by a Partial Lunar Eclipse.

The full moon becomes a Supermoon when it is at its closest proximity to Earth, around 360,000 kilometres away, and as a result it appears bigger and brighter than usual. The moon also needs to be at the full phase, which happens every 29.5 days, according to Space.com. Usually, supermoons only occur a few times a year at the most

While a supermoon is an incredible sight to see, it will also offer real psychological and spiritual effects, which are stronger for both humans and animals.

According to NASA, the moon will appear full for about three days, from Monday evening through Thursday morning. People will also get to see a partial lunar eclipse along with the full moon.

As for the partial lunar eclipse, it will be its most visible on Tuesday just after the peak of the full moon around 10:44 p.m. ET. The top eight percent of the moon will be in full shadow at that moment.

While the moon’s spiritual effects will be felt by everyone to some extent, because Pisces is a Mutable Water sign, this sign along with other Water signs Scorpio and Cancer, and Mutable signs Gemini, Virgo and Sagittarius, will feel it most.
