Over $588,000 Worth Of Cheese Allegedly Stolen In Heist

If you’re in the market for cheese, Jamie Oliver has a message for you: beware of any “very posh cheddar” going cheap—it just might be sourced from a very unusual heist.

Neal’s Yard Dairy, a London retailer and distributor, was scammed out of more than £300,000 (AU$588,000) of English and Welsh cheddar cheese when they delivered 22 tonnes of the good stuff to a fraudster who was posing as a distributor for a large French retailer.

The stolen haul includes some of the UK’s finest: Hafod Welsh organic cheddar, Westcombe cheddar, and Pitchfork cheddar, all beloved by cheese connoisseurs.

Oliver, 49, concerned about the inevitable supply shortages of posh cheeses, took to his Instagram and warned his followers to be on the lookout for anyone talking about “lorryloads of very posh cheese” being offered “for cheap”.

But no worries for the small producers behind these cheddars—Neal’s Yard made sure they got paid, taking on the cost of the loss.

Neal’s Yard is working with the Met Police, who confirmed they're investigating the case. So, cheesemongers, if you spot any tagless 10kg or 24kg clothbound cheddars, you know who to call!
