Sergy Boy, located on Collins Street in Docklands, had a sign on its counter last week offering the usual milks; almond, oat, lactose-free.
However, one cafe-goer was baffled to see that under the regular milk options, the sign read: “Next week: Breast Milk $5”
Speaking with news.com.au, the man explained: “I saw it when I was going to get my coffee one morning this week,”
“I’m not usually in Melbourne but was down from Sydney on a work trip.”
“When I went over to the counter to order, there was this blackboard that had all the alternative milks available on it,” he explained.
The Sydneysider inquired about the sign, to the bewilderment of staff, who mistook his curiosity as a request to order the $5 breast milk with his coffee.
After clarifying that he did not in fact want a breast milk coffee, the barista explained that the sign was “just a joke”.
“It’s probably a response to all the interesting milk requests they get each week,” the man pondered.
“But honestly, it did make me do a double take. I know Melbourne is known for being hipster and forward-thinking so I wouldn’t put it past them!”
The Sydneysider isn’t the first customer to take a double glance at the sign, with one internet user posting the menu to Reddit.
“Finally, a Melbourne cafe with all your milk needs,” someone wrote to the r/melbourne Reddit, sharing a photo of the menu.
“This could be a side hustle … young mums making extra cash,” one user wrote.
“I’m sure it would be udder-ly amazing,” another quipped.
“I just want milk that tastes like real milk,” wrote another.
