Live-Action Remake Of ‘Snow White’ Has Officially Been Released In Aussie Cinemas

The original Disney princess remake has amassed 3.33 million at the Australian Box Office and 42.2 million USD in the US over its opening weekend.

‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ was originally released in 1937 and became Walt Disney’s first full-length animated feature film.

The age-old story follows a princess as she escapes into the woods after being exiled by her evil stepmother, where she then meets and befriends seven dwarfs.

The live-action remake stars ‘West Side Story’s’ Rachel Zegler as Snow White and ‘Wonder Woman’s’ Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen.

Industry tracker, Box Office Pro, predicted that the opening weekend would see between 45 and 55 million USD, though even this proved to be too generous.

Attracting less than the lower range of the prediction depicts just how much the release is currently bombing in theatres.

Compared to all other live action Disney remakes, ‘Snow White’ falls second-last in the opening weekend box office earnings, securing its spot only above ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ (2024).

The lack of initial success could be attributed to a range of factors, including poor critic reviews, the use of CGI to create the seven dwarfs rather than employing actors with dwarfism, or the fact that audiences seem to be getting tired of only seeing remakes and sequels.

Despite the limited international success, the film has earned the number one spot at the Australian Box Office in its opening week.

Users on social media who have had the chance to see the new release have shared some significant thoughts.

One user wrote “Just saw Snow White! Before seeing it I saw lots of reviews that said Gal Gadot’s performance as the evil queen wasn’t good. Those people weren’t being entirely truthful. She was actually WAY worse than what they said and she needs to be blacklisted.”

Another commented on Gadot’s performance saying, “She can’t act, she can’t sing, she even has trouble just standing there”

Contrasting these reviews, a third user said “I honestly really liked it! Rachel was amazing, the songs are beautiful, the visuals are stunning and the forest animals are so well done that they feel lifelike yet still belong in a fairytale!”
