Government Hoping To Pass 76 Bills In Final Sitting Week Of The Year

It’s the final sitting week for Parliament for the year and possibly the final opportunity for the Albanese government to ram through bills before it calls the next federal election.

But rather than sitting, everybody seems to be standing and shouting and pointing fingers of blame.

Like a schoolkid that leaves their homework to the last minute, over the next four days, the government aims to pass 76 bills!

This is despite a track record of unsuccessfully trying to cut deals with the Coalition and the Greens on said bills.

The Bills include:

The Social Media Minimum Age Bill Free TAFE Bill Electoral Reform Bill Future Made in Australia Bill Better and Fairer Schools Bill.

The government hopes to ram these and more through or make those who oppose them, namely the Coalition and the Greens, look unfavourable at the next election.

news.com.au’s Political Reporter, Samantha Maiden, told The Project that the Greens last-minute decision to back the housing bills was a “great deal” for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

“This was what he was talking about at the last election, so it would have been super-embarrassing if he had had to go to the next election without getting these through,” Maiden explained.

When it came to the other bills the Albanese government is looking to pass, Maiden said we are likely to see the social media age ban get through.

“They're going to get through those social media changes. So that's bad news for all teenagers and good news for all the parents, I suppose, like me, if they can actually get it done,” Maiden said.
