George Clooney Retires From Romantic Movies

Hollywood star George Clooney has announced that he is retiring from romantic movies to give way to younger leading men.

In an interview with the U.S. iteration of 60 Minutes, Clooney explained that he would no longer be starring in romantic films anymore.

"Look, I'm 63 years old. I'm not trying to compete with 25-year-old leading men," the Oscar-winning actor said.

"That's not my job. I'm not doing romantic films anymore."

The last romantic-comedy film that Clooney starred in was 2022's 'Ticket to Paradise' with Julia Roberts.

The film garnered $168 million at the worldwide box office.

At the time, Roberts told The New York Times that she had turned down romance films for 20 years because of bad scripts.

"People sometimes misconstrue the amount of time that's gone by that I haven't done a romantic comedy as my not wanting to do one," Roberts said.

"If I had read something that I thought was that 'Notting Hill' level of writing or 'My Best Friend's Wedding' level of madcap fun, I would do it. They didn't exist until this movie that I just did that Ol Parker wrote and directed."

Clooney has won People's Sexiest Man Alive twice, once in 1997 and again in 2006, becoming the second man to do so, following Brad Pitt.

"This one's going to be hard for Brad (Pitt) since he's been Sexiest Man Alive twice. He's enjoyed that mantle," Clooney joked at the time.

"I'd say 'Sexiest Man Alive' to him, and he'd go, 'Two-time.' So that's been taken away. We used to call him 'Two Time'. So Brad's going to be upset."

Other romantic films Clooney has starred in include 1996's 'One Fine Day' with Michelle Pfeiffer and 2003's 'Intolerable Cruelty' with Catherine Zeta-Jones.
