UK City Covered In Bin Bags As Rubbish Strike Rolls Into Fourth Month

Birmingham, Britain's second-largest city, has been without bin collections for over a month, and disruptions have persisted since January.

There are now calls for workers' unions to accept a new deal to facilitate the collection of rubbish that has been piling up on the streets.

Union members have been on strike due to the proposed removal of collection officers from daily bin collection routes, which they argue would put workers at risk of harm. The union claims that this change would leave 150 of its members £8,000 worse off.

Birmingham City Council has stated that it scrapped the current system to align operations with national practices. They also assert that all workers have been offered employment at the same pay, along with options for additional training or voluntary redundancy.

Residents have expressed concerns that the growing piles of rubbish pose a risk to their homes, with rotting food attracting foxes, cockroaches, and rats.

As of yet, no agreement has been reached.
