Chinese media reported that the small dog joined the Weifang Public Security Bureau in the Shandong province as a reserve explosives detection dog.
Fu Zai was only four months old when he was hired. Now, at 18 months old, the lucky boy excels at detecting explosives.
After winning over his trainers, Fu Zai graduated as a fully qualified police dog in October.
A social media account on the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, Douyin, updates Fu Zai fans on his training and daily activities.
The account “Corgi Police Dog Fu Zai and Its Comrades” has over 384,000 followers.
However, Fu Zai has been misbehaving. He has been caught falling asleep on the job and urinating in his food bowl.
His treats and toys were confiscated on camera in a humorous display of discipline. He was left with only a red flower to remind him of his achievements.
“Hope you make more persistent efforts in the future,” the officer said in the video.
“Poor Fu Zai worked hard all year, only to lose its year-end bonus. I can relate so much,” one fan said.
“He peed in his own bowl, not in the bowl of its boss ... return his bonus immediately,” another wrote.
But do not fret, Fu Zai was not left completely without.
To celebrate the Lunar New Year, the corgi was given a lavish gift package that had Pacific herring, pumpkin soup, dumplings, rabbit meatballs and a pet-friendly version of a Chinese delicacy known as Buddha’s Temptation, or Fotiaoqiang.
The furry officer was also awarded the Annual Award of Defying Fate.
“We hope Fu Zai and fellow pet officers can grow in good health, and at the same time, we hope everyone can be kind to (animals) because the world does not belong to us only, but also to them,” an officer said.
“Lastly, we hope Fu Zai will be able to grow taller,” he added.
