Charlie’s Angels Cast Reunite Virtually To Celebrate Demi Moore’s Oscar Nomination

Good Morning, Angels. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu have reunited with Demi Moore via Zoom to celebrate Moore’s Oscar-nominated performance in The Substance.

Charlie's Angels premiered in 2000 and was followed by a sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, in 2003. The A-list cast have often spoken of the deep friendship and mutual respect they have for eachother, with Barrymore describing her co-stars as her “partners in crime and in life.”

Now, Barrymore, Diaz and Liu have reunited with Moore (virtually) for the first time since Liu’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony in 2019, to champion Moore’s oscar-nominated performance as Elizabeth Sparkle in The Substance.

Barrymore opened up the Vanity Fair interview by tugging on our Millennial heartstrings, “You've got Charlie's Angels here,” she said.

“... whether you see us as the Angels or not, we are four women who love each other, respect each other, have known each other, have worked together,”

“And really what was an easy yes for all of us, was to come together and talk to Demi [about] this performance.”

“I think I can speak for all of us—we are so proud of you,” Liu told Moore. “This performance, you’ve always had it in you and in all of the work that you’ve done. There’s so much vulnerability in the strength that you are able to put on camera.”

Diaz continued, “You really captured that rawness: that feeling of being insecure but also comfortable with yourself, but then realizing that other people aren’t comfortable with yourself.”

“All women, we are conditioned to be objectified—period… Whether we are movie stars [or not], it’s just every woman… Obviously it’s more extreme in our circumstances, because we’re projected onto a screen and literally objectified.”

“It’s as if there was a constitution written in the film industry that laid out what the film industry was… Y’all went in and just shredded it to pieces and said, I do not agree with this constitution. We are rewriting this,” she continued.

Moore won a Golden Globe for her performance in The Substance, and she’s also widely viewed as a potential frontrunner for the Academy Award.

If this Charlie’s Angels reunion has you yearning for a film sequel, you may be in luck.

Lucy Lui recently appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, and it didn’t take long for the conversation to turn to the noughties film classic.

"If they ever wanted to get you and Cameron Diaz and Drew Barrymore back together, would you do it?" Fallon asked Liu.

"I mean, why not?" Liu said. "I mean, it'd be so much fun. Like, just get us all back together and do some action, flip the hair."

Both Barrymore and Diaz have previously confirmed that they would be on board for a Charlie's Angels.

"I would be surprised if any one of us ever decreed that we wouldn't [do a third movie]," she added. "I would. I would in a heartbeat. The answer is an emphatic yes. I will always say yes,” Drew Barrymore told Benito Skinner in a podcast.
