Calls For Senator Lidia Thorpe’s Resignation Following Royal Outburst

It was all going off without a hitch; King Charles and Queen Camilla’s tour was so mindful, so demure.

Until Independent Senator Lidia Thorpe called out the King during a Parliamentary welcome on Monday, causing international outrage.

The Senator’s comment put the British government under pressure over historical colonial wrongs.

Back home, the blow-up showed no signs of dying down, with calls for Senator Thorpe’s resignation.

“There is a strong argument for somebody who doesn't believe in the system and takes a quarter of a million dollars a year from the system should resign,” said Opposition leader Peter Dutton.

But others were more forgiving.

“She's raising a really important issue. There is a time and place, though,” said Labor MP Daniel Mulino.

Senator Thorpe was unfazed by the reaction and doubled down on her comments on UK television.

“I’m not fussed about what people say about me. I will continue to fight for justice for my people, we are the real sovereigns in this country. The King is not our sovereign,” she told Sky News UK.
