Hathaway will star in the film as Verity Crawford, a famous author who is unable to finish her thriller novel after a car accident leaves her badly injured and incapacitated.

The character’s husband, Jeremy, offers a struggling writer named Lowen a large sum of money to complete the remaining books in the series.

Lowen accepts but discovers a dark secret in the process.

Jeremy and Lowen have not been cast yet.

Michael Showalter will be directing the film. He worked with Hathaway on the rom-com “The Idea of You.”

The pair will also serve as producers of the film under their respective banners, Somewhere Pictures, Heartbones Entertainment and Semi-Formal Productions.

The book ‘Verity’ was self-published in 2018 and became a best-seller, spending months on the New York Times list.

It sold more than 1 million copies in 2023.
