The seat was previously a rock-solid Liberal seat held by Alan Tudge.
“What we were trying to do hadn't been done for 100 years,” said the new Labor MP, Mary Doyle.
The historic loss adds to the Liberal’s woes as the city, the state, and the country turns red.
The Federal Opposition Leader, Peter Dutton seemingly baffled by what went wrong.
“I’m just asking why? This is what I need to assess,” he said on ABC Insiders the morning after the loss.
“By not winning the election, we've failed that test… so I accept responsibility and I'm the leader of the party.”
The future of the Liberal party is now in limbo as they work out how to turn it all around.
“I can tell you it makes me more determined to rebuild this party,” Dutton said.
