Man’s Halloween Tradition Helped Him Win $223,000

A US man’s Halloween tradition of selling pumpkins helped him win an AU$223,000 jackpot.

Roy Story from North Carolina had sold a pumpkin for US$10, which he used to buy a lottery ticket, he told UPI News.

Story added that he initially did not realise how much he had won because he wasn’t wearing his glasses.

“I thought I had won $1,000,” he said, adding that he would be spending the money on buying a new truck.

In the U.S., lottery winners have to pay the IRS 24 per cent in tax on any winnings exceeding US$5,000.

This means Story will be taking home US$107,251 (AU$159,500).
