Fyre Festival 2 Has Been Postponed Indefinitely, And Who Is Surprised?

Fyre Festival 2 has been postponed less than two months before it was due to take place.

In a notice to ticket holders, the statement read: “The event has been postponed and a new date will be announced. We have issued you a refund. Once the new date is announced, at that time, you can repurchase if it works for your schedule.”

The second iteration of the infamous bin fire of a festival was scheduled to take place from May 30 until June 2 in Mexico.

It was set to take place in Isla Mujeres, a tropical island off Cancún.

However, the tourist board and local officials soon claimed that no such festival exists.

Edgar Gasca from the tourism directorate of Isla Mujeres said: “We have no knowledge of this event, nor contact with any person or company about it. For us, this is an event that does not exist.”

It was also revealed that founder Billy McFarland had obtained only a licence that allows for a 12-hour listening party of a maximum of 250 people.

Additionally, the permit does not allow for any live performances, and can only run for a total of 12 hours between midnight and 4 am each day between May 30 and June 1.

In an interview with The Project, McFarland said, “What makes Fyre so unique are the people who do come.

“They’re taking this risk. They’re seeking this adventure. They’re willing to travel.”

McFarland said he was throwing Fyre 2 to pay everyone back for the mistakes that were made in Fyre 1.

No artists had been announced, but McFarland told The Project that he had actually booked two Australian artists.

Details from the botched Fyre Fest were revealed in the Netflix documentary FYRE.

The original 2017 lineup was reportedly set to feature Blink-182, Major Lazer, Disclosure, Migos, Pusha T, Tyga and more.

McFarland was released from prison in 2022 after he pleaded guilty to multiple counts of fraud.
