Data Reveals Australians Spend 11 Days A Year Searching For What To Watch

New streaming giant Max has collected data showing that Aussies spend an average of 42 minutes each day searching for something to watch.

Based on data throughout February 2025, it has been determined that people spend roughly 37 minutes during the week and a whopping 56 minutes on the weekend sifting through viewing options.

So, in the time that you could have watched an entire extra episode of your show, you were more than likely searching for the right one to begin with.

Searching through all of these options has been labelled “filler filtering”, a label akin to “doom scrolling” on social media.

Three in ten Australians (29%) admit to filler filtering regularly, whilst a staggering nine in ten (93%) often face decision paralysis when choosing what to watch.

The high rates of decision paralysis leads to a quarter of Aussies letting any show or genre play in order to avoid making the decision at all.

While a third of streaming viewers will instead turn to classic and loved content to avoid being disappointed with new low quality options.

Reportedly, 20% of viewers get annoyed and frustrated having to sift through filler content.

These shows occupy most of the space on streaming platforms yet are generally abandoned by viewers within the first 10 minutes.

When a good show comes along, don’t forget to cherish it.
