‘Taylor Swift’ Has Entered Popular Pet Names List

We all know a cavoodle named Bailey or a cat named Luna, but now the name Taylor Swift has entered the popular pet names list.

Taylor Swift made astronomical waves with her record-breaking Eras Tour, which lasted two years, so it is no surprise that pet owners would name their beloved pooch or cat after the mega pop star.

According to Bupa Pet Insurance’s annual Top Dog Names, Taylor Swift and Swiftie, along with other music royalty names such as Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Elvis, and Lady Gaga, made the list of Unusual Suspects.

Other quirky names included Angus Beef, Cheeseburger, Cheetos, Pretzel and Bao.

Owners vying for a luxurious name went for the likes of Gucci, Celine, Loewe and Louis Vuitton, or car names like Porsche, Holden and Aston Martin. Royal names like Prince George, Prince Louis and Prince Harry also made the cut.

Pop culture names were also popular among pet owners, with Game of Thrones-inspired names like Tyrion and Jon Snow, Harry Potter, Hermione, Ron Weasley, and even He Who Shall Not Be Named, Voldemort, making the list.

Bupa General Insurance General Manager Lachlan Davidson said: “Bupa Pet Insurance’s top dog name list for 2024 showed how much pop culture icons and beloved characters have influenced the names we give our furry friends.

“Given the star power of Taylor Swift and Beyonce, it’s not surprising she’s now in our list. We often sing our pets’ praises, so we may as well give them some star power.

“For many of us, our pets are our family and pet parents are giving their beloved family members names that hold special meaning to them or nods to their favourite pop culture heroes. It certainly makes the local dog park an interesting place to be.”

“A pet is for life, so it can be safer to choose a name that’s not just the latest trend on TikTok and that’s why we continue to see fur favourites like Leo and Frankie remain in the top 10 year after year,” he said.
