According to a 2023 Pew Research Center survey of 5,073 US adults, the percentage of women looking for romance is on a steep decline.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, almost half of the women who participated in the survey didn’t view marriage as an important element of a fulfilling life. This is a significant increase from 31% in 2019.
Single women are also more content with their solo relationship status than men, with the survey revealing that only 34% of single women said they wanted a romantic relationship, while 54% of single men said they wanted a relationship.
The survey also revealed that women outpace men when it comes to college education, with 47% of men aged between 25 and 34 having a bachelor’s degree, compared with 37% of men.
The topic of women choosing to embark on and embrace solo lives is rampant online in 2025. Speaking on the podcast, Relationshit Pod, content creator Anna Kai said: “You can enjoy life alone, you don’t need somebody to bear witness to your joy to make it exist.”
And the single ladies echoed the sentiment in the comments.
“I’m afraid I like being single too much now,” one user wrote.
“Literally love being single. I move on my terms and no one else’s”, another added.
With women rejecting societal and cultural pressures to tie the knot, they’re now finding joy in pursuing higher education, becoming homeowners, prioritizing their careers, becoming mothers on their own terms, and cherishing friendships and relationships outside of the romantic realm.
