Princess Catherine Embraces Teenage Photographer Battling Cancer

The Princess of Wales has made a surprise appearance at Windsor Castle to meet with Liz Hatton, a teenage photographer battling a rare form of cancer.

Prince William invited Liz and her family to photograph an investiture he led at Windsor Castle after he heard of the 16-year-old’s love of photography at an earlier engagement.

A photo of Princess Catherine and Liz embracing was shared on the royal couple’s X account.

“A pleasure to meet with Liz at Windsor today. A talented young photographer whose creativity and strength has inspired us both. Thank you for sharing your photos and story with us. W&C,” the post caption read.

Liz Hatton was diagnosed with desmoplastic small round cell tumour in January and is currently battling the rare and aggressive form of cancer.

Speaking with the BBC, the teen’s mom, Vicky Robayna, said that doctors have given her daughter between six months and three years to live.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: “Following the investiture, both the Prince and Princess of Wales met Liz privately with her family to hear about her day and journey."

Posting to her own socials, Liz said she was "over the moon" after meeting the couple at the castle.

“Such lovely, genuine and kind people. I’m over the moon that my family and I had this experience,” she wrote.

This meeting is particularly poignant, given Princess Catherine’s personal battle with cancer. Just last month, Kate posted an emotional personal video message sharing an update on her cancer journey, revealing that she had completed chemotherapy.

"The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you,” the Princess of Wales said.

"Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long, and I must continue to take each day as it comes. I am, however, looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”

Princess Catherine has made a slow return to royal duties, focusing on the issues that matter most to her. For the rest of 2024, Kensington Palace has confirmed that she will be in attendance at Remembrance Sunday in November and her Christmas Carol service in December.
