Nicotine Vapes Now Available From Pharmacies

Adults can now purchase low-dose nicotine vapes from a pharmacist without a prescription as new vaping reforms come into force.

The reform aims to allow the use of low-dose nicotine vapes as a tool to quit smoking while protecting young people from the dangers of vaping.

The new national vaping law means pharmacists can now supply vapes with a nicotine concentration of 20 mg/mL or less to adults without a prescription following a consultation.

People requiring vapes with a higher dose of nicotine will still need a prescription, as will patients under the age of 18.

Vapes will be subject to plain packaging laws, and favours will be restricted to tobacco, menthol and mint.

Not every state is on board with the reform, with Tasmania considering a bill that will require a prescription for purchase and ban the sale of vapes to anyone under 18, with or without a prescription.

Western Australia also intends to override the federal law and require a prescription for purchase.
