The reality dating show typically sees contestants partner with fast fashion brands. However, this move sets the tone for a more environmentally conscious influence as the show partners with eBay.
'I Saw It First' is a fast-fashion giant selling clothing priced from £2.80. Many activists have stated is terrible for the environment, calling the show and its contestants' irresponsible' for encouraging purchases from the fashion giant.
In its Twitter announcement of a new partnership partnership, one of Love Island's key catchphrases has been repurposed by eBay UK.
Stating that "pre-loved has always been our type on paper", the company is gearing up to supply a range of secondhand outfits, including swimwear, to the show's contestants.
"We'll inspire the nation to think differently and make more conscious choices when it comes to their wardrobes."
Eve Williams, chief marketing officer at eBay UK, said in a statement.
"Whether that is selling a dress that is sitting at the back of their wardrobe or shopping for their favourite islander's secondhand looks – these small changes can make a big difference to driving circularity."
ITV, producers of Love Island, state that it hopes this 'landmark' move will motivate its viewers to consider pre-loved clothing and to embrace sustainable fashion choices.
