Landlord Can't Sell His Home After Adele Claimed It's Haunted

The landlord of a property in West Sussex has accused Adele of hindering his ability to sell the £6m mansion, after she claimed it was haunted.

The Grammy-award winning singer rented the Grade II-listed Lock House in Partridge Green, West Sussex, all the way back in 2012.

Whilst living in the 10-bedroom house, Adele did an interview with Anderson Cooper on CBS, in which she gave the host a guided tour ot the mansion.

"This bit's all quite scary, really," she said as she roamed around the property.

"I'm not rattling around here on my own. It gives me the creeps."

She also told Cooper that one corridor in particular was "quite scary really".

So, have the record show that Adele did not technically use the word "haunted" to describe the Lock House. It was just… heavily implied.

Owner Nicholas Sutton now wants to convert the mansion into three homes and the garage into a cottage, but claims the comments made by Adele during her CBS interview have hindered the selling process.

"The first tenant, Adele, stayed for six months and blighted the property by saying it is haunted," it said.

"This comment negatively impacted future marketing efforts and continues to affect the property's reputation to this day."

According to the application, the owner has actively been trying to sell the property for about 14 years. It received one offer in August 2020, but the buyer pulled out after learning of the property's rumoured haunted status.

Lock House was built around 1900 in the Vernacular Revival style before it was refurbished in the 1930s with the inclusion of a ballroom.
